Terrane
Privacy Policy - Terrane
Terrane is a listening instrument. It uses your microphone to make sound from your surroundings. This policy explains what happens to that sound.
Microphone
Terrane uses the microphone only after you press Begin and grant permission. While a session is active, iOS shows the microphone indicator. Ending the session stops the microphone.
Apple Watch
If you choose Apple Watch as the input, Terrane on the watch uses the watch's microphone while you are listening through it on your iPhone. The watch shows the microphone indicator while it does. The sound is sent directly to your paired iPhone over Apple's watch connection, is not stored on the watch, and is handled on the iPhone exactly like sound from its own microphone. Stop on the watch, or End on the iPhone, stops the watch's microphone.
Sound held in memory
During a session, the most recent twenty seconds of sound are kept in your iPhone's memory so the app can play them back transformed. This audio is not written to storage. It is discarded when you press End, when the session is interrupted, or when the app closes.
Recordings
A recording is made only when you press Record. It contains what you hear: the processed sound, not the raw microphone input. Recordings are saved as files on your iPhone, in storage that belongs to the app. They stay there until you delete them in the app or delete the app. If you use iCloud Backup or computer backups, recordings are included in those backups like other app files.
Recordings leave your device only if you choose to share them using the share sheet, or turn on iCloud Drive in Takes.
iCloud Drive
iCloud Drive is off until you turn it on in Takes. When it is on, finished recordings and their details (title, length, date, input name and the settings used) are copied to your own iCloud Drive, in a folder called Terrane, and recordings already there are brought onto this device. They are stored by Apple in your iCloud account under Apple's terms; we cannot see or access them. Deleting or renaming a recording in the app does the same in iCloud Drive. Turning iCloud Drive off stops copying; recordings already in iCloud Drive stay there until you delete them in the Files app.
Data we collect
None. Terrane has no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking, and connects to nothing except your own iCloud Drive when you turn that on. We do not receive your audio, your recordings or any information about how you use the app.
Settings
The app stores your scene, control positions, input preference and whether iCloud Drive is on, on your device, so they are there next time.
Children
The app does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this changes, for example if a future version adds an optional feature that sends data off the device, this policy will be updated before that version is released and the change will be described here.
